Harrisburg tops Brookland in benefit

BROOKLAND — A fourth-quarter touchdown and safety propelled Harrisburg past Brookland 23-14 Tuesday night in a junior high football benefit game.
Chandler Thompson was 5-for-11 passing for 124 yards and two touchdowns for Brookland. Thompson hooked up with Brett Robinson on a 68-yard touchdown and Devon Newton for a 15-yard touchdown. Will Ballard added a 2-point conversion catch for the Bearcats.

BROOKLAND — Nettleton used a third-quarter touchdown to go up 14-6 and held off Brookland 14-12 in junior high football on Thursday.
After Nettleton took an early 8-0 lead, Brookland pulled to within two on Chandler Thompson’s 69-yard touchdown pass to Devin Newton later in the period. After the Raiders extended their lead to eight in the third quarter, the Bearcats, pulled to within the final score on a 3-yard scoring pass from Thompson to Will Fowler. The 2-point conversion pass was denied, setting the final.
Brookland executed a successful onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, but an interception halted the comeback attempt.
Thompson finished 7-of-11 passing for 140 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Austin Martin led Bearcats rushers with 50 yards on seven carries.

HIGHLAND — Highland handed Brookland a 38-18 loss Thursday in junior high football.
Dylan Groves ran the opening kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown for the Bearcats (0-3, 0-2 4A-3) and Chandler Thompson found Clay Humphrey for a 30-yard touchdown pass
